CN Announces 'Robot Chicken'

Cartoon Network has announced the new animated program from Seth Green and Matthew Senreich. The announcement was made at the annual Television Critics Association in North Hollywood earlier today. The stop-motion series entitled Robot Chicken is scheduled to join the late-night programming block Adult Swim in late February 2005. Anticipated for many animation fans are aware of the creative talent that Seth Green holds, the premiere should certainly be something to keep an eye out for. The following is the press release from the network:

A new type of animated series will join Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim on Sunday, Feb. 20, when Robot Chicken, from actor/producer Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, premieres. Using stop-motion animation to bring pop-culture parodies to life in a modern take on the variety/sketch show format, Robot Chicken will air Sundays at 11:30 p.m. (ET, PT).

In Robot Chicken, no pop culture target is safe. Legions of action figures are used to spoof everything from Quentin Tarantino’s blood-spattered action epics to The Real World, in which a cast of superheroes takes the place of drunken 20-somethings. A team of artists and technicians create miniature sets, tiny yet elaborate costumes and props and intricate action scenes for sketches skewering popular entertainment, politics and celebrity culture. Green and Senreich lead the writing staff and provide voices for the fast-moving weekly series, and a number of celebrities will provide voices, including Scarlett Johannson, Burt Reynolds, Ryan Seacrest, Mark Hamill and Macauley Culkin.

Green is well-known for his acting roles in dozens of movies like Without a Paddle, The Italian Job and the Austin Powers films. He has also appeared extensively on television, starring in the hit series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and as the voice of Chris in Family Guy. Senreich began his career working in comic books before joining Wizard Entertainment, a publisher of magazines covering comic books, action figures, anime and collectible card gaming. Senreich was named editor of ToyFare, then editorial director for all of Wizard’s publications.

Green and Senreich met through their mutual love of toys and action figures. They hit it off and began discussing a way to bring them to life through animation. After collaborating on a project for Sony’s Web site, the duo pitched a fast-moving pop-culture sketch show to Adult Swim. Robot Chicken was given the greenlight in Spring 2004.

About Adult Swim: Adult Swim is Cartoon Network’s late-night block of animation aimed at adults. The block airs Saturday-Thursday from 11 p.m.-2 a.m. (ET, PT) with a replay from 2-5 a.m. (ET, PT). Adult Swim’s programming is a mix of quirky original comedies like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021 and Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law; popular favorites Futurama and Family Guy; and thrilling action/adventure like Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist.

About Cartoon Network: Cartoon Network, currently seen in 87.3 million U.S. homes and 160 countries around the world, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.’s 24-hour, ad-supported cable service offering the best in animated entertainment. Drawing from the world’s largest cartoon library, Cartoon Network showcases unique original ventures such as Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Codename: Kids Next Door, Teen Titans, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Ed, Edd n Eddy and other Cartoon Cartoons. Cartoon Network also features Adult Swim, its signature late night block of animation for grownups. Since its launch in 1992, Cartoon Network has remained one of ad-supported cable’s highest-rated networks.

Sarah's Robot Chicken
18 February 2005
Source

Buffy stars reunite for Green's animated comedy.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has teamed up with former Buffy co-star Seth Green for Plastic Buffet - an episode of the latter's new sketch show.

Robot Chicken, devised by Green, uses action figures to perform satirical skits. The makers claim that they spoof everything from Quentin Tarantino's blood-spattered epics to The Real World, in which a cast of superheroes takes the place of drunken 20-somethings.

Stars flocking to voice characters on Robot Chicken include Scarlett Johannson, Burt Reynolds, Mark Hamill and Macauley Culkin.

Sarah will voice herself, and a Buffy doll will presumably do the rest. But will it be 12" Graduation Day Buffy, with faux leather coat or 5" Vampire Buffy with gripping hands and extra crossbow? We wait with baited breath.

Other highlights of the upcoming episode include Meteorgeddon, in which Harrison Ford and Aerosmith fly off to stop an asteroid that could destroy the Earth, and a post-Muppet Show history of Dr. Teeth and his band revealed in Behind the Music: Electric Mayhem.

Green Draws 'Four Kings' at NBC
Friday, April 01 08:11 AM
Source

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Seth Green is putting aside his puppets to star in a comedy pilot for NBC.

Green, who co-created Cartoon Network's "Robot Chicken" and whose last regular TV work was "Greg the Bunny" in 2002, will star in "Four Kings" for NBC, which as far as we know will feature all human actors. The comedy, from "Will & Grace" creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, is about four long-time friends who share a New York apartment.

The former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star is set to play the "annoyed malcontent" of the quartet, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He'll be joined in the pilot by Kiele Sanchez ("Married to the Kellys").

His casting in the project comes shortly after he filmed a guest spot on "Will & Grace." He's set to appear in one of the show's final episodes this season.

Green writes, executive produces and does voice work on "Robot Chicken," a stop-motion-animated sketch show that's part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim lineup. He also does voice work for FOX's "Family Guy."

His film credits include the "Austin Powers" movies, "The Italian Job," "Party Monster" and last year's "Without a Paddle."

FOUR KINGS (NBC) - Shane McRae ("One Life to Live") has been revealed to be the fourth "king" in the comedy pilot, about four friends since childhood living in New York. He's playing Bobby in the Warner Bros. Television-based project, who's described in the casting notice as: "Mid 20's. A mellow musician, kinda sexy, kinda grungy. He's not quite beautiful enough to be an Abercrombie & Fitch model, but is beautiful enough to be an Abercrombie & Fitch cashier. Though he was born just outside of New York City, he comes off more like a guy that grew up in Malibu, but without the surfer accent. Bobby is not dumb, but there is a very good chance he doesn't know who the Secretary of State is." In addition, Todd Grinnell's role has been confirmed to be that of Jason: "Mid 20's. A stylish, opinionated, vain, weight-obsessed whirlwind of metrosexual energy. This guy is totally put together. The body, the hair, the look. You would never know by looking at him that he was the fat kid on the playground. He's convinced he knows the "right" way to conduct your life, even better than you do. Though his concerns seem shallow, he cares deeply about the people in his life." Josh Cooke (as Ben), Seth Green (as Barry) and Kiele Sanchez (as Jenny) also star in the pilot, which comes from executive producers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan.

GREEN'S AFFAIR PLAN WITH CULKIN'S GIRLFRIEND FALLS FLAT
07/05/2005 01:45
Source

Actor SETH GREEN quickly realised how little celebrity clout he had recently, when his false claims that he was dating pal MACAULAY CULKIN's girlfriend MILA KUNIS went ignored.

The AUSTIN POWERS star and Ukrainian beauty Kunis devised a plan to shock the press with revelations of an affair behind Culkin's back, but they were quickly humbled when they realised nobody was interested.

Green says, "There was a rumour going around that (Mila and I) were dating, 'cause her boyfriend was out of town and we went to a club together. We tried to work it and nobody caught on to it.

"You realise the limitations of your celebrity when you try and manipulate the media. We were like, 'Oh, we're dating!' And nobody (reacted)... We just thought it would be funny and then nobody bit so we just got onto other topics."

Welcome back Greg The Bunny
Posted May 11, 2005, 3:07 PM ET by Bob Sassone
Source

Wow, talk about your weird TV comebacks. The Independent Film Channel is bringing back Greg The Bunny, the very short-lived Fox comedy that aired a few years ago. It's not clear whether Seth Green or Eugene Levy will be involved in the show (Green is currently doing Robot Chicken on The Cartoon Network). There's a funny premise for the new version though: it will have the characters of Greg The Bunny forced to make ends meet by making short films for The Independent Film Channel after Fox cancels their show. Each "episode" will be 5 to 12 minutes long. The IFC also has other new shows coming up, including a Michael McKean-voiced animated show from Bob Balaban, and a faux-documentary comedy show titled The Festival.

Four Kings (Comedy)

Premise:
When Ben's (Josh Cooke) grandmother passes away, he inherits her New York apartment and decides to invite his three best friends from childhood to move in with him. These co-dependent heterosexual life-partners are on the cusp of adulthood, but they aren't ready to grow up just yet.

From What We've Seen: Ensemble shows like this often are made or broken on how well the lead actors play off one another, and early indications are that the "Kings," led by Seth Green and Josh Cooke, have that easy way with one another that can make viewers believe they've actually been friends for a long time. In the mode of "Friends" and "Will & Grace" -- which like this show was created by David Kohan and Max Mutchnick -- the characters don't so much converse with one another as trade quips, which makes one wonder if all the funny bits are in the trailer. On the plus side, what's in the trailer was pretty good, and if there are a few more laugh lines held back, so much the better.

Stars:
Josh Cooke ("Committed"), Seth Green ("Greg the Bunny"), Todd Grinnell, Shane McRae ("One Life to Live")

Studio: KoMut Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television

Producers: David Kohan, Max Mutchnick ("Will & Grace")

'The Italian Job' to have a Brazilian
June 1 2005
Source

The David Twohy scripted sequel will take place in Rio this time around.

Writer-director David Twohy has unintentially written a sequel to the 2003 hit 'The Italian Job'.

Twoy, whose previous credits include 'Pitch Black' and 'The Chronicles of Riddick', recently pitched an idea for a film called 'The Wrecking Crew' to Paramount.

The studio liked the concept, but said they would prefer to use the idea for a sequel to the hugely succesful remake that starred Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron.

The film will now be called 'The Brazilian Job' (insert your own pubic gag here), with most of the action taking place in Rio de Janeiro this time around.

F Gary Gray will again direct, with the bulk of the cast, including Wahlberg, Theron, Seth Green and Jason Statham, expected to return.

Having lost that particular script however, Twoy can content himself with the fact that he has two other major projects in development at the moment.

First up is 'The Would-Be Warrior', a 'Jumanji'-style fantasy adventure about a young boy who gets caught up in a world of swords and sorcery.

Following that big-budget production, Twoy then hopes to commence work on 'The Break', a sci-fi tale of an alien-run prison on earth.

A jailbreak-style picture in the tradition of 'Stalag 17' and 'Cool Hand Luke', the film will follow the human prisoners' desperate efforts to escape.

There's no word on a cast or start date for either film yet.

Enjoying animation: Seth Green ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") not only has a hit on the Cartoon Network with "Robot Chicken," he also stars in "Four Kings," a midseason comedy on NBC.

Not surprisingly, he said, in what little time he has to spare, he watches all the Adult Swim shows on Cartoon Network.

He said it took just five days to animate each of the first 20 episodes of "Robot Chicken."

"We negotiated to get a six-day schedule this year," he said. "We'll have 20 more episodes for the second season (which debuts next spring). They want us to eventually do 150."

Buffy Reunion! Nicholas Brendon (Kitchen Confidential) and Seth Green (Family Guy) walked the carpet simultaneously at the Fox soiree, so naturally, I had to pull them over to each other for a Sunnydale reunion. Talk about a swoon-worthy onscreen pairing, which you can see for yourself in the video clip. Sigh. I miss the Scoobs.
